Institutional building refers to any building or part thereof which is used for purposes such as medical or other treatment or care of persons suffering from physical or mental illness. It also refers to the building where care of infants, convalescents or aged person is taken. Institutional buildings ordinarily provide sleeping accommodation to the occupants. These institutional buildings can be specialized non-commercial training centres. It includes hospitals, sanatoria, custodial institutions and penal institution like jails, prisons, mental hospitals and reformatories. These shall include any building used for school, college or daycare centres.
